She boarded the plane in her wedding dress. In a daze, trying to gather her thoughts, she sat looking out the window. She tuned out her seat mate who said, “excuse me” twice. Unfortunately, when the stewardess handed out the peanuts, their eyes met.

He said, kindly, with the inflection of the diary ad, “Been dumped?”

How cruel, Jennifer thought. She quickly looked away, back toward the window. So maybe wearing the dress wasn’t the brightest move she had ever made but she had barely made her flight. It’s not like she still had on her veil. The hardest part was behind her, facing all of the people at the church. She had made a joke with, “You’re probably all wondering why I asked you here today.”

The man made another overture at conversation something about half of all marriages ending in divorce. Well, since Jennifer wasn’t married, and after today, ever likely to be, she wasn’t too concerned with the dire statistics.

The seatmate leaned over Ed’s empty seat and said, “Do you not recognize me, Jennifer?”

Jennifer looked up, astonished to find her high school sweetheart.

“Oh,” she gasped, astonished and delighted.
